2020 Social Security Benefits Calendar

Social Security benefits may be monthly retirement benefits or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments. (In some cases, you may receive both. See below for the benefits calendar if you receive both, or if you have been receiving benefits since before May of 1997.)

For 2020, let’s look first at the calendar for those receiving Social Security retirement benefits only:

  • If your birth date falls anywhere from the 1st of the month through the 10th of any month, you will receive your 2020 monthly benefits on January 8, February 12, March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 10, and December 9.
  • If your birth date falls anywhere from the 11th through the 20th of any month, you will receive your 2020 monthly benefits on January 15, February 19, March 18, April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15, August 19, September 16, October 21, November 18, and December 16.
  • If your birth date falls anywhere from the 21st through the 31st of any month, you will receive your 2020 monthly benefits on January 22, February 26, March 25, April 22, May 27, June 24, July 22, August 26, September 23, October 28, November 25, and December 23.

SSI (Supplemental Security Income):

However, if you receive SSI benefits but not retirement benefits, your SSI benefits will come on the following dates in 2020, regardless of your birthday:

  • January 31, February 28, April 1, May 1, June 1, July 1, July 31, September 1, October 1, October 30, December 1, December 31.

Both:

If you receive both Social Security retirement benefits and SSI, or if you’ve been receiving benefits since before May of 1997, your payment dates in 2020 will be on:

  • January 3, February 3, March 3, April 3, May 1, June 3, July 3, August 3, September 3, October 2, November 3, December 3, December 31
