ACT Scores For 1200+ Colleges & Universities

On this page we have created a very simple “cheat sheet” for finding the ACT scores that are typical of incoming freshmen at over 1200 U.S. colleges and universities. These numbers mainly come from the Common Data Set initiative, or IPEDS, both of which have schools reporting key information about their student bodies in a common, standardized manner — in order to compare “apples to apples.”

Below you will find a range of composite ACT scores for enrolled freshmen at each college or university from the most recent available data. After the name of each school we’ve noted the freshman class from which the data comes — first-year freshmen entering in the Fall of 2018 is used whenever possible; earlier years were used when necessary. (We update as new information becomes available.) The lower score represents students’ scores at the 25th percentile level, and the higher score represents students’ scores at the 75th percentile. While this obviously does not allow us to say what the “average” ACT score is at each school, it does tell us where the middle 50% of the freshmen scored, which should be enough information to get an idea of the makeup of the freshman class.

Due to the large number of colleges and universities, the list is split into multiple pages. On this page we have listed over 350 schools with ACT scores that meet the following (somewhat arbitrary) criteria:

  • ACT score at the 25th percentile is 22 or higher and the ACT score at the 75th percentile is 27 or higher.
  • There were at least 100 ACT scores from incoming students reported by the school.

The other 900 or so schools are listed on the linked pages alphabetically. For example, Newberry College is found on the linked page for schools beginning in “N” and “O”.

(Some schools are listed using estimates from the little data that was available; in those cases, you obviously should feel less confident in our numbers. If you do not see a school listed here, it may have an open admissions policy, or not track ACT/SAT scores, or only track SAT scores, or have some other policy that does not make it applicable to this list. If you feel a school is missing that should be here, email adam@proudmoney.com. )
