How To Pay The California DMV Reinstatement Fee

Updated April 20, 2021 – If your California vehicle registration has been suspended, you must provide proof of insurance and pay a $14 reinstatement fee. You can provide the documentation and the fee in a number of ways:

  • Online: Go to this page and make your payment.
  • By Mail: If you have your notification letter, you can mail the stub from your letter along with proof of liability insurance and/or reinstatement fee payment to DMV, P.O. Box 997405, Sacramento, CA 95899-7405. Don’t have the notification letter? You can still send in your stuff, but you’ll use this address instead: DMV – VRFRP Unit, P.O. Box 997408 M/S N305, Sacramento, CA 95899-7408.
  • By Phone: Call 1-800-777-0133 and say “vehicles” and “renew registration” when prompted by the automated system. This option may be the most complicated of the three.
