Chase Freedom Flex℠ – This is NOT strictly a gas credit card by any means, but it is worth mentioning because for at least one calendar quarter (three months) of each year in the recent past, this card has offered 5% cash back on gas station purchases (excluding big box stores that sell gas, like Walmart and other warehouse clubs) as part of its rotating calendar of 5% reward offerings. (We can’t say for sure that gas stations will continue to be a 5% category, though.) How The 5% Calendar Works: You earn 5% on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate. In addition, you’ll earn 5% on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards, 3% on dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services, 3% on drugstore purchases, 1% on all other purchases. NEW CARDHOLDER BONUS OPPORTUNITY: Earn a $200 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.
- Sam’s Club Mastercard – You’ll have to be a Sam’s Club member to get this card, but if you are, you’ll get 5% “Sam’s Cash” cash back on your gas purchases (on the first $6000 in yearly gas purchases, 1% rebate if beyond that). You’ll also get 3% on dining, 3-5% inside Sam’s stores (depending on your membership level), and 1% everywhere else.
- Bank of the West Cash Back World Credit Card – Earn 3% cash back on gas as well as 3% on grocery and dining purchases, 1% everywhere else. Note that the 3% back on gas purchases is capped at $1500 of gas purchases per calendar quarter. (After $1500 in gas purchases, further purchases would earn 1%.) The card’s application includes this message: “Apply today and you may receive a decision in as little as 60 seconds.” Only available in states that Bank of the West serves for regular banking.
- Citgo Credit Card – “You may receive an instant response” when you apply for this gas station credit card that allows you to earn 10¢ on every gallon in fuel statement credits for the first 3 months, and 5¢ on every gallon in fuel statement credits after the first 3 months at any CITGO location.
